The History
Its origins traced back to the veneration of St. Elesbão and Santa Efigenia, who was held in a private residence.
In 1740, with the creation of the brotherhood of San Elesbão and Saint Efigenia, and the large influx of the faithful, the images are transferred to the Church of Santo Domingo. In the same year is decided by the construction of its own church and the permission for construction is obtained. In 1745 the land is purchased, in 1747 the work begins and, seven years later, in 1754, it is inaugurated.
In 1868 a significant reform is carried out.
In 1888, with the proclamation of Law Aurea loses many of his devotees and begins to suffer from the lack of cooperation for maintaining it. It is greatly degradation and it is necessary that the fellowship dispose of some of their goods so that is possible to make the necessary reforms. Finally, in 1913, the necessary work is done and the church reopens in 1914 as we know it today.
