The History

It has its origin in a street oratory, in the possession of two brothers, where a large number of devotees, from the end of the seventeenth century, came to meet frequently, to pray the rosary.

With the foundation of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Mother of Men in 1750, it was decided to construct its own headquarters, on land adjacent to the oratory, in Rua da Alfândega. Eight years later the construction of the church began, which would only be completed in 1803, 53 years later.

The facade was redone in 1856.

Curiosities
