The History
It has its origin in the desire of the friars of the Order of the Third Parties of St. Francis to have their own church. With the donation of a land, by the Franciscan convent, the planning and construction work begins. Construction began in 1657 but due to
to disagreements between the Brotherhood and the friars and divisions among the members of the Brotherhood itself, had its execution repeatedly suspended and resumed. Its construction lasts 76 years, being finalized only in 1733.
After the authorization of the foundation of the Third Order of Saint Francis of Penance on March 20, 1619, the construction of a Chapel for the Order begins. It was built attached to the Church of the Convent in Florentine style and the altar was consecrated to the Immaculate Conception. Inaugurated in 1622, it was used until the completion of the largest church and exists until today.
